Western distance runner Camden Raab and Kokomo hurdler Omar Daniels are heading into the IHSAA Boys Track and Field State Finals with momentum and big goals after winning titles in the Lafayette Jeff Regional last week.

Raab won the 3,200-meter run in 9:09.24. Daniels won the 110 hurdles in 14.04 seconds and was runner-up in the 300 hurdles in :37.80.

He qualified for both events at the state meet.

Raab said he has tried to enjoy the week.

"Obviously I want to go in very competitive and I want to place up as high as I can," the Panther senior said. "I’m just focusing on keeping my body fresh and putting myself in position to do well."

Daniels is focusing on his race plans.

"The primary thing for me is just making sure I have full confidence in God. That’s the one thing I think about before all races. I know He’ll give me what I need," the Wildkat junior said. "Secondly, I always just think execute. I try not to think about it too much. That can get me a little nervous or little too excited."

The boys state meet is today at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Raab and Daniels are joined by five other KT-area athletes — Kokomo’s Jeremiah Young, Marcus Noy and Cooper Cage, Northwestern’s Braxton Schieffer and Lewis Cass’ Julian Levine.
