HOOSIER CONFERENCE MEETGIRLS West Lafayette won the nine-team meet with a score of 182 Friday night at West Lafayette. Hamilton Heights was second at 138, Western third with 104.5, and Tipton eighth with 17. Western athletes set two school records. Panther throwing standout Ellyse Walden won the discus with a toss of 134-3, and was second in shot put with a school record 41-11. Western's Hattie Harlow was second in the 3,200 (12:20.58), Allison McKitrick was second in the 100 hurdles and set a school record (:15.65), Norah Ewing was second in the 300 hurdles (:49.38), Ewing was third in the 200 (:26.6), and Ashlyn Pownall was third in the 400 (1:03.4). Western scored well in the relays as the Panthers took second in the 4x100 (:51.66), second in the 4x800 (10:41.47), and third in the 4x400 relay (4:28.24). "Great run by Allison McKitrick in the 100-meter hurdles to set a new school record by .04 seconds," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "The previous record was set by Lacy Rathbun last year. "Ellyse Walden broke her own school record in shot put and showed a lot of resolve coming back and winning discus. Our girls 400-meter relay team of Ashlyn Pownall, Norah Ewing, Kenzie Moore and McKitrick came with .2 seconds of our school record despite one of our girls not being 100% due to illness." BOYS West Lafayette ran away with the title, scoring 192 Friday night. Rensselaer was second at 91. Western was fifth with 64 points and Tipton sixth at 48. For Western, Camden Raab was second in the 3,200 (9:29.99), less than 3 seconds behind the winner, Milan Bennett was second in pole vault (13-5), and Brett Kallio was third in the 400 (:53.37). "Camden Raab threw down one of the bravest 3,200-meter races I've seen in years," Jewell said. "He stuck with the leader for the entire race and wound up finishing 12 seconds under his previous personal best." Tpton's Caleb Farr won pole vault, clearing 14 feet.
