GIRLS TRACK

Western 84, Tipton 47

The Panthers showed good balance in the road meet with seven different girls winning individual events.
Western's individual winners were: Erin Knepley (400 dash, 1:05); Reagan Ritchie (800 run, 2:45); Mallory Winger (300 hurdles, :59.2); Nicole Hampshire (3,200 run, 12:51); Madi Shepherd (long jump, 13-10.75); Miranda Pressgrove (high jump, 4-10); and Taylor Nunan (pole vault, 8-0).

The Panthers also swept the relays with Knepley running on two of the winning teams to finish as a triple winner. Shepherd, Ellie Rush, Liz DeWitt and Grace Lupoi won the 4x100 in :54.22. Allison McMinn, Bretta Tate, Mallory Davis and Knepley won the 4x400 in 4:37. And Ritchie, Hampshire, McMinn and Knepley won the 4x800 in 11:27.

"I thought it was a really solid meet," Western coach Brandon Shawhan said. "We had a number different girls running personal-best times. We just keep seeing improvement, that's the biggest thing. We're ready for a big one at the Big Orange Invite at Heights on Saturday."


BOYS TRACK

Western 79, Tipton 53

Triple winners Zach Shahan and Josh Everetts led the Panthers in the road meet. Individually, Shahan won the 100 dash (:11.2) and high jump (5-10) and Everetts ran to wins in the 800 (2:13) and 1,600 (5:02.1).

Also winning individual events for Western were: Corey Hinkle (discus, 147-5); Nick Hackler (400 dash, :58.6); Stacey Hutchinson (200 dash, :23.2); and J.T. Benzinger (pole vault, 10-6).

The Panthers swept the relays. Auston Davenport, Tyler Lechner, Andrew Granfield and Everetts won the 4x800 in 9:15.4. Mica Beard, Cameron Dessing, Hutchinson and Shahan won the 4x100 in :44.6. And the all-freshman quartet of Jordan Hicks, Zhe-don Beard, Hackler and Lechner won the 4x400 in 4:02.5.

"We saw improvements in a lot of areas, which was great considering we're coming off of spring break," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "Cameron Dessing in both hurdles events dropped about a second each from our last meet. Shahan continued his dominance in the high jump as did Hinkle in the discus.

"We had some kids step up in different spots that we've been hoping for. One is Cody Kuefner in the shot put. He got third (in his first competition ever)."
