BOYS TRACK Western took first overall with a 74, Eastern followed with a 47, and Cass scored a 46. Cameron Dessing was a triple winner in leading the Panthers. Dessing won in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.8), 100 dash (:11.2) and 300 hurdles (:45). Nick Hackler was a double winner. Hackler won in the 400 run (:54.1), and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team (3:42.70) with Quaylen Calvin, Elijah Woodring and Reggie Manuel. Other winners were Josh Everetts (1,600 run, 4:42.20), Tyler Gilbert (discus, 121-1) and Jordan Hicks (high jump, 5-8). “Dessing had a nice meet,” Western coach Gary Jewell said. “He had a really nice win in the 100, especially coming back from the 110 hurdles, which he finished 10 minutes earlier. We are starting to see improvements in our field events.” Dante Nolder and Braden Evans led the way for Eastern’s second place finish with two wins apiece. Nolder won in the 200-meter dash (:23.5) and Evans took the long jump (18-11). The Comet’s Andrew Doak won the pole vault (10-6). Both Nolder and Evans joined Trey Thomas and Corbin Hetzner in winning the 4x100 relay (:45.4), and the 4x800 relay team of Brenton Cherry, Jack Johnson, Aaron Schaaf and Aren Turner crossed the line first in 9:13. Eastern coach Tom Everett saw improvement in the meet. “I think the guys are coming along with their intensity,” Everett said. “We have three meets this week with this one being our second, and the third being our invite on Saturday. The kids are working hard, and the conditioning is getting better. GIRLS TRACK Western took first with a score of 82.5. Cass finished second with 43 points and the host Comets scored a 41.5. For the Panthers, Haley Berry was a triple winner, taking first in the 100 (13.8), the ling jump (13-4 3/4), and joining with Liz DeWitt, Alex Parr and Maddie Bryant for a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay (56.5). Bronwyn Getts was first in the 800 (2:36.5) and ran on the 4x800 winning relay team with Emma Marley, Natalie Nicholson and Reagan Ritchie (11:19.8). Marley joined with Allison McMinn, Grace Sullivan and Grace Meissnest to win the 4x400 in 4:31.2. Also for the Panthers, Nicholson was first in the 1,600 (5:44.5), Sullivan was first in the 400 (1:04.5), Taylor Nunan was first in the pole vault (9-0) and Kimberly Miller won the shot put (32 3/4). “I thought we had a very strong performance,” Western coach Brandon Shawhan said. “We saw a lot of girls set peresonal bests. Overall, it wsa a really good team performance. We’re just looking for continued improvement.” Cass had four winners from the contest. Malley Ronk won the discus (90-0 feet), Tori Powell was tops in the high jump (4-8). Breanna Diedrick won the 200 dash (:58.9), and Miah Martin won the 3,200 run (11:52). Cass coach Kristie Harrington was pleased with second place. “The girls worked very hard, and accomplished their goals,” Harrington said. Eastern’s Arienna Ewing won a pair of events, placing first in the 100 hurdles (16.5) and the 300 hurdles (53.8). |
