Host Hamilton Heights won the 12-team event with a score 119. Peru finished fourth with a score of 58.5. Western was seventh with 51.5, Cass was ninth with 35, Tipton was 10th with 26.5, Eastern was 11th with 23 and Maconaquah was 12th with 20.

Jonah Lester was a triple winner for Peru, taking first in the high jump and 400 dash individually, and combining with Tori Forrest, Gavin Gysin and Nate Cole to take first in the 4x400.

Western coach Gary Jewell saw some positives from his team’s showing.

We ran shorthanded [Saturday]. It got hot and we had to pull some guys,” Jewell said. “We didn’t score in six events and we still ended up only 7.5 points out of third place. So we’re certainly not disappointed, but not overly thrilled.”

Josh Everetts took first in the 1,600 for the Panthers with a time of 4:40.27. Cameron Dessing was first in the 300 hurdles in 40.79.

A really good race out of Cameron,” Jewell said. “And then Everetts had a really nice leg in the 1,600 where he was able to kick away from a couple guys. We can still be better. We have a lot of young sprinters and I think there was a little bit of a wow factor for a lot of the kids at such a big meet, but a good learning situation.

Western’s 4x800 relay team of Everetts, Andrew Granfield, Tyler Lechner and Nate Nicholson took second overall with a time of 8:42.02.
