BOYS STATE MEET

Western boasted a pair of 19th-place finishes at the IHSAA Boys State Track and Field Finals Saturday at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University.

The 4x800 team of Jacob Bradshaw, Auston Davenport, Matt Grider and Josh Everetts took 19th in 8:09.47, the second-fastest time in school history. Chesterton claimed top honors in the event in 7:44.87.

Grider returned later in the day to place 19th in the 3,200 run in 9:34.60. Southport’s Clayton Bowie repeated as champion in the event in 9:06.63.

Grider was a three-time state finalist, taking seventh in the event a season ago.
