BOYS TRACK - Western 88, Peru 44 Jacob Hopkins, James Davis and Matt Riley won two individual events apiece to lead the Panthers past the visiting Bengal Tigers. Hopkins won the 110 high hurdles (:16.0) and 300 hurdles (:42.3),Davis swept the 100 dash (:11.4) and 200 dash (:23.9) and Matt Riley cleared 5-10 in winning the high jump and 18-71/2 in winning the long jump. Other winners for Western were: Ben Bradshaw (400 dash, :53.2); Chris Love (1,600 run, 4:47); Garret Welker (pole vault, 12-0) and Dakota Bagwell (shot put, 40-0). "I was really pleased with a few individuals in particular," Western coach Marvin Boswell. GIRLS TRACK - Western 92, Peru 40 Natylee Nation and Taylor Young led the way for the Panthers against the visiting Bengal Tigers. Nation won the 100 hurdles in :18.3 and the long jump in 14-11 and Young swept the 200 dash (28.1) and 400 dash (1:06.). Other Panther winners included: Corianne Myer (1,600, 5:58); Krissy Durr (3,200, 13:04); Corinna Cottingham (pole vault, 10-0); Bre Cable (discus, 89-9); Caily Tanner (shot put, 36-5) and Sable Staller (high jump, 5-2). In addition, Myer, Gina Jakubowicz, Durr and Lindley won the 4x800 and Cottingham, Janise Ham's, Katie Singer and Laura Christopher won the 4x100. "We had a goodnight," Western coach Joni McCracken said. "This was the seniors' last dual meet at home so we played around with the lineup a lot. It made it fun for the kids. "I was really happy with senior Allison Everetts. She is coming off an injury and she had a really nice night in the pole vault. She got second with an 8-6. And, she ran the 1,600 for fun." McCracken noted several other seniors also tried new events for fun. And, McCracken credited her younger team members for strong performances. "I was impressed with Cara Love. She is a junior. She ran a [personal record] in the 1,600 and then turned around and got a PR in the 3,200 and ended up second in the 3,200.1 am really happy with where she's at in her first year running track," McCracken said. |
