BOYS TRACK - Western 121, Tipton 21 The Panthers just missed a sweep, winning all events but the shot put. Jacob Hopkins was a quadruple winner, sweeping the hurdle events (110, :16.3; 300, :42.5). He was part of the victorious 400 relay with Garrett Welker, James Davis and Matt Riley, and took a win in the 1,600 relay with Ben Lenahan, Nick Braden and Ben Bradshaw. Riley took home four blue ribbons, as well, winning the 400 (:52.5), long jump (18-6.5) and high jump (6-0). Matt Grider was a triple winner, taking the 1,600 (4:56.3) and 800 (2:14.7) before running in the 3,200 relay with Bradshaw, Austin Elliott and Chris Nunan (9:48). Welker was tops in the 100 (:11.6), Jeff Stout won the pole vault (12-0), John Davis won the 200 (:23.9), Riley Worl won the 3,200 (10:59), and Dakota Bagwell rounded out Western's winners in the discus (112-2). "For out first meet out of spring break, I thought the kids did a good job of coming out and competing," Western coach Marvin Boswell said. "In some races we were competing against ourselves, and we found out a lot about our depth, and that might be able to help us t out later in the year." Tipton's Johnny Grosvenor won the shot put with a heave of 41-4.5. GIRLS TRACK - Tipton 66, Western 62 The meet came down to the final race of the evening with the Blue Devils coming out on top. The Panthers won six events, including four field events. They swept the top three spots in the shot put and the top two spots in the discus. Caily Tanner won the shot put (37-5.5), followed by Bre Cable and Katee Chandler. Cable won the discus (94-4) and Tanner was second. Also for Western, Sable Staller won the high jump (5-0), Corinna Cottingham was tops in the pole vault (9-6), Laura Christopher was tops in the 400 dash (1:07) and Gina Jakubowicz, Corianne Meyer, Allison Lindley and Krissy Durr won the 4x800 relay (10:51). "We had several personal records [Thursday]," Western coach Joni McCracken said. |
