BOYS TRACK - Western 87, Peru 36 Aaron Van Auken took home three blue ribbons for a balanced and deep Panther squad that is now 5-1 on the year in dual meets. "Overall as a team we've really started to develop and come together with our top two athletes starting to emerge in each event," Boswell said. "We've been fortunate to be able to stick different guys in different events, and I think that that will make us competitive in the big meets. The athletes have been working hard in practice, gearing up for those big meets." Van Auken was tops in the 110 hurdles (:15.6) and the high jump (5-9), and ran a leg of the victorious 400 relay, teaming with Jacob Hopkins, James Davis and Garrett Welker to win in 45.5 seconds. Trevor Buckalew was a force in the field events, posting top showings in the shot put (42-11.5) and the discus (120-8). Matt Riley leaped to victory in the long jump (19-1.5), and joined forces with Welker, Andrew Rodgers, an dLuca Luckey to win the 1,600 Relay in 3:41.7. Indy Mathew (300 hurdles, :41.9), Chris Love (800, 2:05.3) and Austin Young (3,200, 9:55.4) rounded out the winners for the Panthers. Ian Applegate was a double winner for the Tigers, taking home victories in the sprinting events (100, :11.2; 200, :22.6). Nich Lipari (1,600, 5:05.5) and Robbie Stanley (400, :54.9) also won for Peru, as did the 3,200 relay team of Tyler Kintner, Dakota Barnes, Caleb Bragg and Bennie Baker (9:11.9). GIRLS TRACK - Western 70, Peru 53 The Panthers took 12 blue ribbons, but a deep Peru team was able to keep things interesting for most of the competition. Corianne Myer was a triple winner for Western, topping the field in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 41.2 seconds) and 1,600-meter run (6:00), and joining with Taylor Young, Alleca Kerker and Allison Everetts to win the 1,600 relay in 4:38. Everette matched, victories in the 400 (1:04) and long jump (13 feet, 9.5 inches). Breanna Cable was a double individual winner (shot put, 33-10.5; discus, 94-6), and Jennifer Dale ran away with the victory in the 200 (:28.2) before teaming with Kerker, Young and Corinna Cottingham for a top showing in the 400 relay (:54.4). Kerker took home a victory in the 100 (:13.3). Natylee Nation (300 hurdles, :53.5) and Bre Nicholas (3,200, 13:36) rounded out the Western winners. "Corianne Myer had extremely good night, winning the 1,600 in 6 minutes, coming back and winning the 800 and being on the 4x400 relay. That was huge for us," coach Marvin Boswell said. "Allison Everetts had another good night. She's probably our most consistent athlete on the girls’ side.” Andrea Chambers (high jump, 4-10) and Leanne Jamison (100 hurdles, :17.2) were Peru’s individual winners. The Tigers also paced the field in the 3,200 relay, where Taylour Kintner, Gena Fisher, Keyia McConahay and Emilee Hobbs won in a time of 11:19.4. |
