BOYS TRACK - Western 119, Tipton 8 The Panthers (3-0) cruised at home against a Tipton squad very thin on numbers. Aaron Van Auken won the 110 hurdles (16.3) and the high jump (6-0) and also took second in the long jump on a tiebreaker. Indy Matthew won the 300 hurdles (42.6). James Davis won the 100 (12.1). Matt Riley won the 400 (52.3) and the long jump (19-9 1/2). Lucas Luckey won the 200 (24.3). Austin Young won the 1,600 (4:32). Chris Love won the 800 (2:07). Riley Worl won the 3,200 (11:28). Jeff Stout won the pole vault (12-6). Trevor Buckalew won shot put (45-9) and discus (1290). Luckey, Hudson Featherstone, Matthew and James Davis won the 400 relay (46.1). Andrew Rodgers, Luckey Garrett Welker and Riley won the 1,600 relay (3:37). "Just not having very many people to run against was more like an intersquad meet," Western coach Marvin Boswell said. "Austin Young had an excellent time there in the 1,600 run. Running that time is definitely a plus. Matt Riley, who is a freshman, coming out and running 52.3 in the 400 — that's the first time he's run that — was very, very strong for us. Aaron VanAuken is running very solid." GIRLS TRACK - Western 75, Tipton 56 The Panthers (2-1) won eight events and used depth to pull away from the visiting Blue Devils. Alleca Kerker won the 100 (13.4). Taylor Young won the 400 (1:11.6). Jennifer Dale won the 200 (28.1). Casey Herr won the pole vault (7-6). Breanna Cable won the shot put (33-8) and discus (93-8). Krissy Durr, Gina Jakubowicz, Erin Weber and Corianne Myer won the 3,200 relay (11:21). Herr, Natylee Nation, Young and Kerker won the 400 relay (55.3). "I thought overall the girls came out and competed real well," Boswell said, pointing to his squad's depth as the key to the win. "Alleca Kerker is coming on strong. She was injured a little bit and is coming back and starting to run some good races." |
