Western 99, Eastern 33It was the Kyle and Kyle Show on Wednesday at Russiaville as both Kyle Brown and Kyle Young were quadruple winners. Brown won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.8 and 24.1 seconds, respectively, the long jump at 20 feet, 6 inches and teamed with Alex Sigler, Dalton Head and Young to win the 1,600 relay in 3 minutes, 40 seconds. In addition to the 1,600 relay, Young won the 800-meter run (2:10), the high jump (5-10) and helped Kody Harmon, Corey Scott and Chris Love capture the 3,200 relay in 8:52. "Kyle Brown, it was just a fantastic evening for him," said Western coach Marvin Boswell. "And Kyle Young, this is the first he has run the 800 for us and he did an excellent job. He's starting to show his senior leadership and that's what we're looking for." Austin Young doubled in the distance events, winning the 1,600 (4:52) and the 3,200 (10:58). Patrick Lennon (16.3) won the 110 high hurdles, Indy Mathew (44.6) won the 300 intermediate hurdles, and Alex Sigler (52.0) won the 400 meters. Lennon and Mathew joined Ryan Elmore and Christoffer Kun to win the 400 relay in 46.0 seconds while Bart Shepherd (1338) won discus. Eastern's winners were Kyle Land (42-8) in discus and Cody Swisher (14-0) in pole vault. Western is back on the track today at Cass while the Comets host their invitational Saturday. Western 114, Eastern 18The Panthers captured 15 of 16 first-place finishes to overpower the Comets at Russiaville on Wednesday. Cara Earlywine was a quadruple winner, topping in the 100 (13.3) and 200 (27.8) races and helping two relays to victories. She teamed, with Danae Rittmann, Jennifer Dale and Alleca Kerker to win the 400 relay (52.1) and with Maggie Talbert, Dale and Kerker to win the 1,600 relay (4:32). Dale won the long jump (14-6 1/2) and Talbert (1:06.0) won the 400 meters while Nikki McCracken returned to action to' capture the 100 hurdles (17.1) and the pole vault (9-6). Dale was also second in pole vault. Freshman Ashley Gaskins won both the 1,600 (5:59) and the 3,200 (13:22) and classmate Sable Staller won the high jump (5-3). Jenn Elliott captured the 800 meters in 2:47 and anchored the winning 3,200 relay team of Corianne Myer, Breana Nicholas and Lacey Myer in 11:32. Lizi Chandler won shot put (34-4) with a personal-best and discus (96-9). "It was an excellent effort," coach Marvin Boswell said. "It was nice to get Nikki [McCracken] back. She was injured coming out of gymnastics. Ashley Gaskins had a wonderful night. She's feeling pretty good and her times continue to improve." |
