Western 90, Tipton 42Sprinters Cara Earlywine, Alleca Kerker and Danae Rittmann turned in strong performances to lead the Panthers. They finished 1-2-3 in the 100 and 200 dashes and they ran legs on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. In the 100, Earlywine had a winning time of 13.2 seconds, Kerker followed in 13.3 and Rittmann ran 13.9. In the 200, Early-wine won in 26.9 and was followed by Kerker (28.2) and Rittmann (28.5). "The sprinters really did an excellent job," Western coach Marvin Boswell said. "Cara Earlywine is our [top] returning sprinter. She is off to a really good start. She was able to break 27 seconds in the 200 [Wednesday]. She did an outstanding job. The rest of the sprinters are doing good jobs too." Rittmann, Jennifer Dale, Earlywine and Kerker won the 400 relay in a time of 52.3 seconds. Rittmann, Dale, Earlywine and Kerker won the 1,600 relay in 4:30. Dale and Lizi Chandler each won a pair of field events. Dale cleared 8-0 in the pole vault and went 14-1 1/2 in the long jump. Chandler putted the shot a personal-best 33-7 1/2 and tossed the discus 94-3. Also for the Panthers, Sable Staller won the high jump with an effort of 5-0; Jenn Elliott took first in the 800 run in a time of 2:48.6 and Lacey Myer followed in second in 2:50 and Ashley Gaskins, Corianne Myer, Lacey Myer,and Elliott won the 3,200 relay in 11:00. Western 91, Tipton 41Quadruple winner Kyle Brown helped the Panthers beat the visiting Blue Devils. Individually, Brown won the 100 dash (11.4 seconds) and the long jump (19-1). In addition, he ran legs on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. Teammate Jerel Hall took second in the 100 dash (11.5) and ran on the same relay squads. "Kyle Brown had a wonderful night. He is starting to really get into the groove. His times continue to improve. And Jerel Hall is right there on his tail," Western coach Marvin Boswell said. "We switched some running events around," he added. "We put Alex Sigler in the 200-meter dash and he goes 23 flat [and wins]. That is a great time for the wind we had, because it was not to his back." Sigler too second in the the high jump (6-0) and in the long jump (18-0). In other individual events, Corey Scott won the 1,600 run (4:46) and 3,200 run, (10:29); Kyle Young was tops in the 400 dash (53.3); Zac Martinez won the 800 run (2:05.8); Bart Shepherd took first in the discus (125-11) and Trent Lawlyes, Chris Harter and Dean Shepherd went 1-2-3 in the pole vault. Lawlyes cleared 13-0 to take first. Boswell noted Scott ran well in the distance events and Patrick Lennon ran well in entertaining hurdles events. Tipton's Taylor Maxey topped Lennon in the 110 and 300 hurdles. The Panthers swept the relays. Scott, Chris Love, Young and Martinez won the 3,200 relay in 8:54; Sigler, Ryan Elmore, Hall and Brown won the 400 relay in 45.8 and Young, Martinez, Brown and Hall won the 1,600 relay in 3:40.1. |
