WHS has solid day at Hoosier Relays

 

BLOOMINGTON - Western enjoyed a productive Saturday in the Hoosier State Relays indoor track and field event at Indiana University. The Panther boys and girls squads competed in the Class A, 2A, and 3A division.

On the boys side, Alex Sigler was second in the long jump (20 feet. 7 inches), Patrick Lennon finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles8.62), Kyle Brown was sixth in the 55 dash (6.77), Dean Shepherd was seventh in the pole vault (13-0) and Corey Scott was seventh in the 3,200 (9:57.35 The Panther boys 800 relay team took second with Jerel Hall, Sigler, Ryan Elmore and Brown finishing in 1:34.06. The 3,200 relay team of Scott, Chris Love, Kyle Young and Zac Martinez took fourth in 8:36.53.

"We improved all of our times and made a phenomenal showing there," Western coach Marvin Boswell said of the boys squad. "[It] shows a little bit of depth that I think we're going to have this year."

On the girls side, Sable Staller was fifth in the high jump (5-0) and took sixth in the long jump (15-6). Jennifer Dale was eigh in the long jump (15-3). The Panther 800 relay squad of Danae Rittman, Dale, Staller, and Cara Earlywine finished fifth (1:52.59).

"[The girls] came out and improved each of their times," Boswell said of the girls team. [We had] outstanding performances for this early in the season."
