Western 84, Taylor 48

Eric Fiscus, Brandon Youngdale, Jarred Hall, Patrick Lennon, Alex Sigler, Ryan Orr and Shawn Parkins were double winners for Western.

Fiscus won in the shot put (42 feet, 2 inches) and discus (113-10). Youngdale tied a school record in the high jump (6-6). Lennon won in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.7 seconds) and 300 hurdles (55.3 seconds). Hall was tops in the 3200 run (12 minutes, 10 seconds) and Orr won in the 800 run (2:15).

Hall, Orr and Parkins were members of the winning 3,200 relay team (9:08). Parkins, Youngdale and Sigler ran legs on the winning 1,600 relay team (3:45).

"This first win of the season extends our winning streak to 67-0 over the last four years," Western coach Dana Neer said. "The seniors are doing a great job. No matter what the weather conditions, we can perform. The athletes came out, and the did a great job. Fiscus won both field events, and Lennon has provided great depth for us."

Western 76, Taylor 46

Annina Gruber was a triple winner for Western. Gruber won in the 800-meter run (2:36) and 1,600 run (5:40). She also ran a leg on the victorious 3,200 relay team (10:58).

Kristin Tiedeman and Vanessa Aders were double winners. Tiededman won in the discus (87 feet, 8 inches) and shot put (28-2), and Aders won in the long jump (14-8) and high jump (4-10).

"It was a great season starter," Western coach Joni McCracken said. "My goal was to close the gap against Taylor, but we blew that away. [The girls] all ran very well. They knew that we had to fight for every point that we could get. The kids have worked hard. Taylor has a great team of athletes."
